Eve is lacking the ability to contribute to the "collective well being of fellow capsuleers". And when you are pursuing a career as an explorer the option to do it for "a higher cause and purpose" is not there. there is very little to no impact on everyone around you when it comes to the advances you make during your exploration or whatever else you are doing.
What if you could join forces with other capsuleers "for the greater good of new eden"
what if we had the ability to "raise the collective well being through our advances in our fields".
Is it possible? what would it look like?
taking the sandbox to the next level
for example: the more people are exploring together the higher % chance there is of finding certain rare items which can have a greater impact on new eden.
example2: incursion runners, if they fail to stop an incursion in time, then there will be consiquences to the systems which are attacked. such as stations getting damaged or POS being destroyed, or sanshas would attack people at the gates, or whatever else would happen in an invasion
In real life, scientists and explorers who are passionate about the higher purpose of their work and contributing to the collective well being of civilization are quickly without a job, because that doesnt make alot of money. The only scientists who are employed are the ones who are researching new ways to put a bigger number on a product version without actually changing the product besides making it cheaper to make in a third world country.
gotta remember, the number of scientists in existence that actually have the opportunity or the care to science for the sake of science is likely closer to a tenth or hundredth of a percent than any kind of meaningful percentage
not really relevant to the topic, just wanted to point out real life comparisons for games are bad
I do find that facinating, that is what we tend to believe, because that is what we are exposed to in the media, and other news sources.
It is facinating because although in certain fields that may be true, it is also wrong.
Whilst you are quite correct in your summation, that money pays for more money, and the research budgets go to those that have a commercial return.
Those are not the only budgets.
And those are not the only research projects being financed.
They may not get the publicity, they may not get the airtime and attention.
Because they are not seeking funding, they already are quite happily funded, well enough.
I assure you there are ample people, quietly working for the good of humanity, and who were drawn into Science by these very motivations.
But they do not work for the Major drug companies, or likely any company you have heard of, and that is the way it should be. They are not seeking publicity, just the improvement of the Human condition, in lesser and greater ways, and we should be grateful for their daily toil, and quiet efforts.
You hear occassionaly about funds like the Gates foundation, they are the tip of the iceberg.
Do not believe all that you are told. There is more to the world than greed and blind aquisition.
If you are at college or university, you may be fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with such people, they will not pay as much as the Big payers, but at the end of your days, you can feel you brought something good to the world rather than just consumed air and spent your way through your time on earth.
